End the torture on PNG and Nauru
There are still 400 refugees and asylum seekers in PNG and Nauru. With the US deal close to exhausted, those remaining have few hopes of resettlement. After almost seven years their situation is increasingly desperate. Those in PNG have been moved into a vulnerable situation in the community where they are being forced into poverty. The shameful repeal of the Medevac Bill shows that the government is determined to continue its cruelty towards refugees.

RALLY: PERMANENT, NOT TEMPORARY
Saturday 7 December
6pm
WHERE: Church St Parramatta, outside Parramatta Town Hall
Organised by Justice For Refugees
From the Justice For Refugees Facebook event site:
We call for the government to provide:
1 - Permanent Protection Visas not TPVs
2 - Allow Family Reunion Rights
3 - Fair processing of asylum claims
Join us to say refugees must have the right to family reunion like anyone else in the run up to Christmas.
We seek your support on behalf of more than 30,000 asylum seekers who have been living in Australian since 2012. We have been separated from our families and children for up to 8 years. Visa processing under the 'fast track' system is unfair. Some of us have faced homelessness as we get no government support. All of us face permanent insecurity. Temporary protection visas are cruel. We want the same human rights as everyone in Australia.
Who we are: We are a movement called ‘Justice for Refugees’, established on 1st of August 2019. We have lived in Australia for more than seven years under policy that discriminates against us based on our method of arrival. We sought humanitarian aid and escaped from conflict, violence and persecution in our homelands. We are now suffering under Australia’s inhumane policies that offer us no secure future and further persecute us for seeking protection.

Miream Salameh - المنفردة ١٨٥,١٨٠ /The Isolation Cell 185,180
A solo exhibition of paintings and sculpture
This exhibition addresses the condition of Syria over the last 9 years. The title describes the physical scale of the country (185 x 180 square kilometres) likening it to a large isolation cell, beneath the brutal dictatorship of the Assad regime. Torture and isolation are common forms of punishment in the regime’s secret prisons for anyone who stands for human rights or political freedom. Prisoners who are subjected to isolation have an extended and intensified experience of time, which they endure over weeks, months and years. This is likened to the experience of Syria today, which is pulverised by Asad’s allies and abandoned by the international community.
Exhibition runs Thursday - Sunday 1 - 6pm until 19 December

Film screening and Q&A with Dr Helen Young.
Filmed over four years in ten countries, this film goes behind hospital doors to hear from the clinicians who worked on the islands, and the people held there, who spoke out to save lives.
Their voices led to the passing of the Medevac Law earlier this year, which ensured medical decisions remained with doctors. But the Australian government wants to repeal it and a decision will be made in just a few weeks time.
All proceeds go to RACS to support free legal service for people seeking protection in Australia.

Bring them here from PNG and Nauru
Permanent not temporary visas
Let Priya & Nades stay
In November the Coalition government will push to repeal the Medevac Bill in parliament. They need just one more vote in the Senate. The Medevac process, passed in February against the opposition of Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Peter Dutton, has allowed 130 refugees and asylum seekers so far to access urgently needed medical care in Australia. After six years of brutalisation and mental torture, those who have been on Manus and Nauru all face desperate medical problems. Join us to demand parliament keep the Medevac Bill, and that all the refugees and asylum seekers in PNG or Nauru are brought to Australia.
Read what the Refugee Council of Australia say about the Medevac Bill.

This new short film, based on the award-winning documentary No Fire Zone, re-visits the final stages of Sri Lanka’s civil war in 2009 and considers the ongoing need for accountability a decade on. This film, by award-winning film-maker and journalist Callum McCrae, helps answer why Tamil refugees fled to places like Australia and why it is still not safe for them to return.
-
With the Coalition government deporting Tamils back to Sri Lanka in their thousands, and insisting it is safe for Priya, Nades and their family to return, this film is essential viewing.
